On Parade

Between standing for God Save the Queen and the main feature there was no escaping the 'shorts'.

A short you could rely on was Pictorial Parade. Each month from 1952-1971 one was produced by the National Film Unit.

From specials on the Queen's Christmas to items on health camps and hydro-electric projects, the Parade's New Zealand was a place of normal, sensible people at work and play. Its familiar theme tune and graphics introduced a New Zealand it would have been hard to find outside the pictures.
